About The Book
This book is intended mainly for students of degree classes in pharmacy and related disciplines of medicine, nursing, nutrition, dentistry etc. It meets the requirements of the currently prescribed curricula of Indian Universities and that of the model curriculum of the AICTE amply. It goes beyond these, with a view to provide to those from industry, to researchers and to health care professionals seeking specific information in the area of inorganic pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry.
The chapters on elements introduces to the reader essential facts concerning those elements that find application in medicine or pharmacy, including analytical and quality control. Much of the background needed to understand the section on radiopharmaceuticals will be found in a concise manner in the introductory chapters on chemical principles and elements. The chapter on inorganic toxicology is added to enable the students to learn about hazards of improper use of inorganics and how they can find suitable antidotes or treatments. Both students of pharmacy and other health care professions should find useful information in this chapter.
Water is used extensively in many preparations not only as vehicle for internal administration but also in industry for various purposes. There is need for realizing the importance of water as a pharmaceutical raw material and the extent to which its quality is controlled by regulatory authorities. Pharmacists are most likely to be involved in the quality control of the water. The chapter on water may be found to cover a very important aspect of good pharmaceutical practice. Industrial pharmacists may welcome the background this chapter provides.
